Shyam Murti

Shyam originates from Fiji, which he left in 1987, resigning as Industrial Relations & Training Manager of the largest corporation in Fiji, the Fiji Sugar Corporation, where he started work as an industrial chemist.  Shyam was also actively involved in Fiji’s employment scene and represented Fiji Employers Federation at the International Labour Office and locally in the Industrial Tripartite Forum, National Training Council, Wages Council and Employment Legislation Review Committee.

He commenced work as HR Manager with the Accident Compensation Corporation in 1987 and worked there until 1992 when he left to freelance as an HR & Operational Development Consultant.  He joined C&CDHB in late 1997 as a Project Manager leading the Porirua Hospital de-institutionalisation initiative, and, subsequently, led the HR function for CCDHB Mental Health Service.  In 2002 when the HR function of the DHB was recentralized, Shyam provided HR consultancy to the whole of Mental Health, Emergency Department and the Residents Medical Office Unit.  In 2007 HR was again reconfigured Shyam was assigned to Te Korowai-Whāriki and support to the HR Director. The 2008 reorganisation resulted in Shyam assuming HR responsibility for the new Mental Health Directorate while still supporting the HR Directorate.
