By the transformation of energy, the internal spirit is uplifted
Mission Statement:
To promote and maintain quality mental health & addiction outcomes for MÄori tangata whaiora and their whanau within Capital and Coast District Health Board Mental Health Directorate
The Whakatauki:
This whakatauaki was seen as epitomizing the core mission statement mentioned above, but also acknowledging the evolving of the service and defining the focus of the service as nurturing Capital & Coast District Health Board Mental Health Directorate. It was also noted that from a Maori perspective all tangata (tangata whaiora or kaimahi) possess energy and that energy may be in a negative or positive state. As such in order to establish, promote and maintain quality mental health outcomes adherence to this whakatauki was necessary. The roles of each of the kaimahi within Whakapai was seen as striving to achieve this.
The Logo for Whakapai He Whakarito:
The logo for ‘He Whakarito’, is based upon the fern and its unfurling. In so doing the fern is realizing its potential in its unfurling and therefore changing and evolving. It is receiving energy from the sun and transforms that energy into sustaining life. Its continued survival is dependent upon its relationship with Papatuanuku and Rangi as well as their children.
In this instance ‘He Whakarito’ is representative of the relationships that it must nurture within Capital & Coast District Health Board, Mental Health Directorate. To this end all the roles will seek to develop the services to meet the needs of MÄori tangata whaiora and their whanau.
