Alcohol and Drug Co-existing Services
Function
To provide a service specifically for people from the Wellington region including Porirua, Kapiti, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa that have a substance use disorder together with a severe mental illness. Direct treatment is not offered unless people have a current case manager. Consultation is offered on referrals.

- Liaison
- Supervision
- Training:
* Experiential training in co-existing disorders for mental & AOD clinicians
* Lecturing for 1st year Massey University students
Objectives
The objectives of the specialist service in the Central Region are:
- to promote the concept of dual diagnosis in mental health services
- to work towards all mental health professionals having basic training and skills in identifying and working with clients with co-existing disorders
- promote training for medical staff
Referral Criteria
- People who present with a substance abuse disorder together with a severe mental illness
- People referred by community mental health teams must have a case manager

How to Access services
- Referrals accepted from mental health services only
- Please send any recent assessment, formulations or relevant information where possible to the Co-existing Disorders Team
- Self-referrals are not accepted
Clinicians with the team
Our team consists of an addiction specialist psychiatrist, social worker and a registred nurse.
